AARP Information Center Opens in Tucson

Quoted from Lovin’ Life News (formerly Senior World News).

AARP Arizona has recently opened an Information Center in Northwest Tucson. The center is developing a new pilot program in Tucson with a job referral system for seniors of all income levels.

Lorraine Anderson, Volunteer Center of Tucson & Southern Arizona’s 2004 Tucson Citizen of the Year, is helping with the program. Anderson’s local business contacts will help jump start the new job referral program, according to the Tucson AARP office.

A group of local volunteers will develop and work with a database of employers and agencies serving Tucson and Southern Arizona.

A website has been developed and is available at www.geocities.com/aarp_tucson. Job referral applications will be available at the office or from the website.

Seniors who wish to utilize this program may be required to visit the office to complete an application and interview”, said Anderson.

“The scope of the Job Referral System is expected to include an effort to educate AARP members in transition to employment in new environments from their work in prior years,” said Anderson. “This includes the possibilities of career transition counseling.”

The AARP Tucson Information Office is also seeking volunteers to work in the local North Oracle location. Call for more information on the program at 520 571-9884. Also call before visiting the center.
